Drum n Bass Scene in NYC

Lately most of the time I spend coding is accompanied by Drum n Bass (DnB) Beats.

So, now It’s time to go out there and taste the New York City Drum n Bass scene.

After a little googling, I found this article by Michael Heiss & Carlos Castillo (DJ Odi), some of the party info provided is out of date by now, but I found that these sites are the ones that seem to keep the DnB scene alive.

Konkrete Jungle seems to be the home of DJ Odi, DJ I-Cue and many other Djs from the area that seem to have been doing DnB from a long time ago, so I expect good parties coming my way.

Where?

The Pyramid, 101 Av. A, between 6th and 7th streets. NY, 10002

You have to be 18 years old to dance, and 21 to drink, you get in for $5 before midnight (very cheap for New Yok, which means that this is underground), after midnight it’s $10, and $8 if you bring a flyer with you.

I guess I’ll go taking the A train to 14th st, and then the L to 1st Av, from there walk to Av. A, and then down till I get there.

Now, from Direct Drive it seems the party seems to gather thousands of people a night, and it seems to be hard to get in because their website recommends you getting tickets in advance. Check out AVALON (somebody recommended this place on IRC on the #bassdrive channel), it seems they don’t have a cool concert this saturday, but the next one they will feature Sender Records (from Berlin, Germany) . I guess Avalon is a bit Snob for my taste, check out the pictures in their sight, they even have a catwalk in there, people in disguise and all that velvet rope club bullshit, plus the cover is $30. So I guess I’ll have the real think down at The Pyramid (My friend Melissa would be proud)
Direct Drive also mentions MUNDIAL a place more for jamming with all sorts of related music styles, they say they’ll let you plug your mobile equipment, I wonder if this is that place I heard people came with iPods and could DJ for a bit. This is supposed to be european style, they even have a patio for you to smoke if you’re a smoker that is.
